GASTEC is the LGA's Gas Training & Educational Center (GASTEC), which is located at the JESTC property in Zachary. Damage Prevention Workshop

This workshop focuses on the required elements of a successful damage investigation program.
Also, a discussion of asset protection by learning different techniques to provide accurate and complete utility locations. Various ways to use the Louisiana 811 call system to simultaneously notify many underground utilities operators or facilities of your intent to dig or demolish, including NextGen internet ticketing service. Crossbore awareness and mitigation techniques and processes will be discussed. Classroom and hands-on training will be provided.

Competent Person Training; Safety in Excavation & Shoring

Designed to prepare the designated competent person to be able to recognize existing and predictable hazards in and around the excavation and to take appropriate corrective measures. Topics covered include critical excavation safety terminology and concepts, soils analysis, protective system options and selection, and discussion of the key requirements of Subpart P of the OSHA Excavation Standard.  Classroom and hands-on training will be provided.

First Responder Training

Designed to familiarize first responders with important practices, procedures, and safety guidelines when dealing with natural gas emergencies.  The training will include how to appropriately handle natural gas fires during those type of emergencies.  Classroom and hands-on training will be provided.

Small Operator Pipeline Safety Seminar & Roundtable

In this seminar, the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Office of Conservation, Pipeline Division employees will cover key current topics and challenges facing small operators relating to Pipeline Safety Regulations, Title 49 CFR Parts 190-199. Some of the topics include completion of the annual report, construction, operation and maintenance requirements, DIMP & SHRIMP process and compliance, etc. The session will be interactive and questions/answers are encouraged by all participants.

Cathodic Protection Seminar: Basic
Introductory to Basic Cathodic Protection Theory and Practice. Various time-proven methods for preventing and controlling corrosion will be covered in the seminar. We’ll take a look at types of cathodic protection, and how it's used to protect buried pipelines against corrosion. Classroom and hands on training will be provided.

Cathodic Protection Seminar: Advanced
Participants will gain advanced knowledge and skills in cathodic protection of common types of steel pipe structures buried in soils. Seminar key discussion items include Cathodic Protection Regulations, Criteria and IR Drop, Coupon Test Stations, and Induced AC Corrosion and Personnel Hazards. Classroom and hands on training will be provided.

Poly Fusion Training

Classroom and hands on training will be provided. While learning about poly fusion equipment and its role in piping the natural gas distribution systems of pipeline operators, participants will also go through hands-on training with the equipment, materials, and processes they use in the field. Coursework will consist of topics such as:
  • Butt fusion – both manually and hydraulically operated equipment
  • Sidewall joining
  • Socket fusion
  • Electrofusion
  • Tap tees
  • Tapping and stopping
  • Squeeze tools

Friday, September 20, 2019  |  Morning Session (Safety) & Afternoon Session (Valve Maintenace)
Distribution Safety Roundtable 

This roundtable will consist of specific safety related agenda topics such as working in Hazardous Natural Gas Atmosphere, work zone safety, excavation best practices, competent person responsibilities, personal protective equipment requirements, federal & state regulations and open discussions by all participants. Also included will be a GasTEC facility field site visit.

Distribution Safety Roundtable – Friday, September 20th (Afternoon)
This seminar will cover a discussion and review of valve maintenance procedures which include lubrication and servicing valves with various tools and cleaners.
